Books by Amalie Rush Hill

For those that have offered help on improving this site’s look and accessibility, thank you, but you may as well be speaking Martian to me. I do not understand tech speak. I am doing this alone and the best I can. Until I get help to improve my site, it will remain ‘hard to find’ and less than spectacular. I am thankful that some people are able to find it and, in the process, are spurred into going to Amazon to look at my books there. I assume, if you are tech savvy, that you have a kindle or other app to buy and download the books. If this piques your interest, great! If you dismiss it because I’m a tech bumbler, I am sorry. If you are willing to check out my books, perhaps you will find something to your liking – they are, after all, SciFi. Thanks for reading this page and I invite you to go beyond your view of life and technology to the places and ideas in my books that are offer other worlds of the imagination.

still working…

Stay with me as I finish my fourth Ambolaja novel, Z’Torr. I’m near the end, I think, but I never know for sure what’s in store. As I write, what the characters do, say and where they take me is a mystery. I am as much a spectator as any reader as the tale unfolds onto my computer. Watch for the release here and on Amazon Kindle soon. Also watch for five books of poetry coming soon. I do all of the illustrations and book covers, too.

Three books in Ambolaja Series on kindle

The Shoals of Time is now live on Amazon for kindle download. I am delighted that the third book in the Ambolaja Series is now available.

I am still writing Z’Torr, the fourth book in the series. It will be available sometime within the next year but I can’t say when for sure because I never know how much time it will take. The writing and editing usually take longer than expected.

In the meantime, I am preparing four small books of poetry for publication. They will be ready as soon as I finish the illustrations and cover designs. Poetry books are quite different than novels, in that, one, obviously they are much shorter and two, the editing is more intense. Once a poem is written, all that remains to do is to be sure the meaning is clear and that the words used are the most potent and descriptive. In poetry, the best word can mean the difference between a good poem and an insightful one. Let’s hope that these are the latter.

Happy New Year!

“Shoals of Time Volume 3 of Ambolaja” is being formatted and will be available on Amazon in the next month to 6 weeks. I’m still working on the book’s cover but everything is in the chute.

To those in the Midwest and east, keep warm and be sure to bundle up before venturing outside.

I’m anxious to get back to writing and to finish this last installment about the Faraway Place. There may be more in the future, but for now I’m off to other places. One place in particular is New Venus, a strange jungle world settled by Earth’s people. The main character is John Bloumer, once the youngest pilot to graduate from the space force and now a doctor set to serve the Settlers on New Venus. It will be a while before I can finish it but poor Captain John has been waiting for many years to have his story told.

Book two is about to go on kindle – yay!
I’m excited about getting “Shoals of Time” on as well. It will be a month – probably 2 – before that happens as it has taken far longer than I ever guessed to get them formatted. And the editing process is important. I continue to find things to improve but there comes a time to let it go. As parents, we have to allow our children – actual and/or metaphorical – the room to grow wings and fly.

Have a great Christmas, New Year and all Holidays pertinent to this time of year. Each moment lies before us to do great things, learn and grow. Be the best you can be. For everyone, there has been someone who was/is important: spouse, teacher, parent, friend or even a chance encounter. Take that feeling and apply it to each person you meet, not intimately, of course, but lightly, politely and with goodwill. As you reach out to the world, seeing all as the one you most treasure, that love and respect will come back to you multiplied.
Peace be yours!

Kindle editions

‘Ambolaja: Into the Light’ and ‘Discontinuity Volume Two of Ambolaja’ have been thoroughly re-edited, rewritten a bit and are now available on Amazon for Kindle. I’m pleased that they are both in a ‘better place’ and more accessible to a wider reading public. It’s still difficult to find them at this time unless you’re looking specifically for them, but we hope to ameliorate that problem soon. I have also made new covers for both books and they are quite distinctive, if I may brag a little.

‘Shoals of Time Volume Three of Ambolaja’ is ready to go as soon as we – and by that I mean my son, Seth – gets it formatted for Kindle. I am making the cover for that at this very moment – well, as soon as I get off the computer anyway!

‘Z’Torr: The Visitors Volume Four of Ambolaja’ will be out next spring. I’m still writing it. There may be more installments of ‘Ambolaja’ someday but for now, until it grabs me again, this is the last book.

It’s been a wonderful experience to go new worlds and watch characters grow and evolve. I have other projects to attend to such as essays, collections of poetry and short stories, as well as a book I started many long years ago. Those characters are calling to me to finish their tale and I’m anxious to do that. And then there is the little story I wrote several years ago based on my youngest grandson’s statement “I’m bored!” which led to a kids’ book that as yet is not illustrated. So, as I am soon to leave the Faraway Place, I have other adventures to explore.

Have a wonderful Holiday Season and Happy New Year!

Kindle version

Just a few days ago, Ambolaja: Into the Light went live on Amazon Kindle. This is very exciting because I have been able to edit and tighten it up. Furthermore, I have just sent Discontinuity – after a LOT of editing – to be formatted for release onto kindle next month [10/13]. I am currently working on the editing for third book book in the series, Shoals of Time. Number three will be available in or before December. After that, I’ll be writing the fourth Ambolaja book, Z’Torr – I love that title! It sounds so retro scifi. I’m only about 50 pages into as yet so I’m not really sure where it’s going. I assume it will wrap up this series with some kind of resolution to the story line. However, since I have no idea where this is leading, I can only speculate at this time. Z’Torr should be up spring/early summer 2014.

After that I can go on to other projects – I have many on hold. It’ll be great to have another focus although I love the Faraway Place and its inhabitants.

To my readers, thanks for being patient. It’s been a slog to get through all the editing errors but I think that it’s worth it.

The Shoals of Time Volume Three of Ambolaja

I am currently writing the third book in the Ambolaja series, 362 pages and counting. Sometime next year I hope to re-issue Discontinuity and Ambolaja: Into the Light and at the same time launch The Shoals of Time. I’m very excited about having the opportunity to re-edit Discontinuity and Ambolaja and of course finish Shoals for publication, too.

Watch for new updates on publishing journey.

4th Annual NW Book Festival

Saturday, July 28, 2012, I will be in Portland, OR at the 4th Annual NW Book Festival at Pioneer Court House Square. There will be 75 authors there and we will be selling and signing our books.

One of my favorite things to do is talk to people who are interested in writing, especially young people. As I tell everyone, we all have a story to tell and we do it each day. The difference between writers and others is that writers are compelled to put on paper.

Please join us on Saturday in Portland.

Come see me at the 4th Annual NW Book Festival, Pioneer Court House Square in Portland, OR on Saturday July 28th, from 11 am – 5 pm. There will be many writers attending. I love to talk about reading and writing so be sure to stop by my tent.

In August, I’ll be at Bob’s Beach Books [Hwy 101] in Lincoln City. This is also a lot of fun and if it doesn’t rain, we’ll be sitting in the court yard beside the book store. The event has been limited to 50 author’s this year.
